What I'm up to now...
Teaching
I am focused on teaching a large section of MMP 100 (Survey of Music Industry) with 125 students, and two smaller online sections. We use a custom textbook on Midwest Music Business and Linda Nilson's specifications grading system. I'm teaming up with two partners to create new books on music of the west coast and the south.
This semester I am also teaching MMP 495 (Senior Capstone projects), where I encourage students to develop remarkable projects, put themselves in new situations, take risks, and achieve something they didn't know they were capable of.
I appreciate the guidance of the School of Music's director, Ryan Hourigan.

ResearchI'm working with George Litterst and TimeWarp Technologies on an edition of Scott Joplin's piano works.

I am directing teams from Lin Lan's CS495 class to build phone apps to play the recordings from the Joplin archive, stream Midwestern radio stations, and host and find free mini-courses on YouTube.
|
ServiceI'm organizing the Scott Joplin Online Centennial to give people a chance to publish recordings of Joplin's compositions and papers about his life and times, and for audiences to enjoy performances from a variety of performers. People interested in hosting Joplin Centennial concerts can draw from the archive to fill out programs combined with whatever performances they have from local pianists.
